At one point, I began writing an article to rank the transfers coming into Nebraska via the portal, thinking the Huskers were nearly finished with their additions. But since then, two more transfer commitments have come in, and according to Sean Callahan at HuskerOnline, Nebraska still isn’t done. It looks like the Huskers could end up bringing in over 20 transfers, which would set a new record for the program.
Before this year, the most transfers Nebraska had ever taken in a single cycle was 16.
What stands out to me is the number of wide receivers and defensive backs Nebraska has added and continues to add.
While it makes some sense, given that both position groups have new coaches, it’s still surprising. Usually, this wouldn’t raise many concerns, but with the new roster limit of 105 players, it makes me wonder if we’re about to see significant roster turnover, which might lead to the departure of some players we had high hopes for, like Thomas Fidone.
I’m not overly enthusiastic about this new era of college football, but Matt Rhule and Nebraska are clearly taking a progressive, forward-thinking approach to it.
As for my wish list, I’d love to see Nebraska add another proven offensive lineman and a standout running back to complement Emmett Johnson. Maybe Kwintin Ives is already that guy on the roster?
