Vikings Drops Major Hint About QB’s Future After Playoff Collapse!
Sam Darnold’s chances of staying with the Minnesota Vikings have significantly diminished following a rough postseason performance. After a loss to the Lions that cost the Vikings the No. 1 seed, Darnold struggled in the playoffs, throwing two interceptions (one returned for a touchdown) and being sacked nine times in a 27-9 loss.
The team is now focused on the future with top draft pick JJ McCarthy expected to take over once he recovers from knee surgery. Head coach Kevin O’Connell acknowledged Darnold’s efforts but emphasized it “didn’t work out in the end.”
Darnold finished the season with 4,315 yards, 35 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions, which could earn him a contract worth around $40 million per year, comparable to mid-tier quarterbacks like Baker Mayfield and Geno Smith. However, concerns about his performance in a high-powered offense with top-tier receivers like Justin Jefferson and TJ Hockenson remain.
Teams such as the Giants, Raiders, and Titans might consider him, as they all face quarterback uncertainty. Still, for the Vikings, Darnold would need to perform exceptionally to shift their focus away from McCarthy, whose future with the team now appears secure.
