2025 NFL Draft Pick: ECU’s Star Cornerback Set for Stardom

The New York Giants have long been searching for a reliable cornerback, a need that continues to be a priority for the team. Fortunately, the 2025 NFL Draft is shaping up to feature a deep and talented group of cornerbacks, and the Giants may finally find the second outside corner they’ve been searching for, with value, need, and fit aligning in their favor.

Shavon Revel Jr., a cornerback from East Carolina, has largely flown under the radar on the national stage. This is understandable given his small school background and the fact that he missed most of the 2024 season due to a torn ACL. However, NFL scouts are well aware of Revel’s potential, and his name could surprise many fans when it’s called earlier than expected in the draft.

Could he be the unexpected first-round gem the Giants are seeking?

Shavon Revel Jr. is an impressive and athletic cornerback with exceptional length for his position. Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 194 pounds (according to his school listing), he moves surprisingly well for a corner of his size. His quick, light feet allow him to change directions fluidly, and he has the speed to keep up with most receivers downfield.

Revel has a natural feel for zone coverage and excels at communication, both before and after the snap. He demonstrates a solid understanding of route concepts and rarely gets tricked by misdirection. He is adept at navigating through traffic and handling rub routes without getting caught up in them. With excellent awareness in zone coverage, Revel smoothly picks up and passes off receivers.

He also keeps his eyes in the backfield, making him quick to come downhill and defend against the run or short passes.

An aggressive defender at the catch point, Revel knows how to leverage his length when contesting passes. While he hasn’t racked up a large number of interceptions, he uses his length, agility, and awareness to attack the ball and disrupt receivers’ catches.

In addition to his pass defense, Revel is a willing and competitive run defender. He shows solid technique when shedding blocks from receivers and is a reliable form tackler. Though not a heavy hitter, he consistently brings down ball carriers in space with dependable tackling.
