Browns Eye $180 Million QB as Potential Deshaun Watson Replacement!
The Cleveland Browns may be on the hunt for a new quarterback this offseason, with rumors circulating about adding a veteran signal-caller after Deshaun Watson’s injury setbacks. Watson’s struggles in Cleveland, combined with his massive $230 million contract, have raised questions about his future with the team.
While the Browns hold the No. 2 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, they could opt to target a top quarterback or make a play for a proven veteran. One intriguing possibility is Kirk Cousins, who could be available if the Atlanta Falcons release the four-time Pro Bowler.
The Atlanta Falcons might try to trade Kirk Cousins, but they could struggle to find a taker at his current price, especially knowing a release could be imminent, according to Bleacher Report’s Brent Sobleski. Instead, the Falcons could cut him post-June 1 to avoid a $40 million cap hit. As for the Browns, Sobleski suggests Deshaun Watson’s future in Cleveland is uncertain after his Achilles injury, and his fully guaranteed contract complicates any potential move.
If Cousins is released, he could sign with the Browns on a league-minimum deal, offering stability to a team that struggled last season. Cousins’ four-year, $180 million contract with the Falcons runs through 2027, but the team has floated the idea of keeping him as a backup to Michael Penix Jr. if no trade materializes.
This could be a strategic move by the Falcons to leverage a trade for Kirk Cousins’ hefty contract. If a deal doesn’t materialize, Cleveland might be a logical landing spot if Cousins is eventually released.
