Leesville Running Back confirm Commitment to Minnesota Football

Xavier Ford, a standout running back from Leesville High School in Louisiana, has committed to the University of Minnesota’s football program. Ford, who was named Mr. Football by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association following his record-breaking 2024 season, rushed for 3,467 yards and 52 touchdowns, leading Leesville to the Division II select semifinals—the school’s first appearance since 2018.

Standing at 5 feet 9.5 inches and weighing 210 pounds, Ford had previously visited Tulane and received an offer from Houston. However, he was seeking an opportunity with a Power Two conference program, which materialized during his official visit to Minnesota.

Ford becomes the eighth scholarship running back for the Gophers’ 2025 roster, joining a talented backfield that includes Darius Taylor, Fame Ijeboi, Jayden Wright, transfer AJ Turner, Cameron Davis, and fellow high school recruits Trey Berry and Grant Washington.

Ford’s commitment bolsters Minnesota’s depth at the running back position, providing the team with a proven and durable performer who has demonstrated exceptional efficiency throughout his high school career. His addition reflects the Gophers’ strategic efforts to strengthen their offensive lineup for the upcoming seasons.
