Alabama linebacker Deontae Lawson will be sidelined for spring practice after sustaining a knee injury during the 2024 season. Lawson, who was hurt in November against Oklahoma, told the Crimson Tide Sports Network that he won’t be ready to return until preseason camp.
“It’ll be until fall camp,” Lawson said. “I’ll definitely try to stay around as much as I can, but yeah, before I’m active, probably fall camp.”
A captain for the Crimson Tide, Lawson finished second on the team with 76 tackles last season. He had originally planned to leave Alabama for the NFL after the 2023 season but decided to stay for one more year after the injury.
“I came to Alabama to win championships,” Lawson explained. “I think I won one championship in football when I was probably 12, in peewee. So it’s just different at this level. I just feel like it’s not over yet.”
Lawson plans to begin rehabilitation on Alabama’s anti-gravity treadmill in February and is expected to play a key role in the defense in 2025, with fellow linebacker Jihaad Campbell heading to the NFL. Dates for Alabama’s spring football practices and the A-Day game have not yet been announced.
