Nolan Arenado Sparks Speculation with Cryptic 4-Word Post Amid Trade Buzz
As late January rolls in, the St. Louis Cardinals remain in uncertainty, with fans still unsure whether the team is heading toward a full rebuild or if it will keep its expensive veteran core intact for the 2025 season. Right-handed ace Sonny Gray seems to be preparing for a promising season, indicating he plans to stay, while Nolan Arenado continues to be the subject of trade rumors, possibly expecting to play for a different team next year.
However, Arenado is not waiting passively for a move. The eight-time All-Star and 10-time Gold Glove third baseman is focused on regaining his top form before Spring Training. Taking a page out of Austin Powers’ book, Arenado is going “back in time” to rediscover his mojo—at least in a figurative sense.
The 33-year-old is returning to the basics, sharpening his skills at the University of Texas at Austin. Although he never attended college, opting instead for the Colorado Rockies organization after initially committing to Arizona State, he spent time in Texas during his 2012 stint with the Texas League’s Tulsa Drillers. His connection to the Longhorns doesn’t matter; what’s crucial is his commitment to getting back to his best.
“Back 2 the Roots,” Arenado wrote on Instagram, as he works on batting practice and fielding ground balls while the Cardinals weigh their options. The front office has shown interest in trading Arenado, but progress has been slower than expected. His lingering presence is holding up other potential moves for St. Louis, increasing anxiety among Redbird fans. Finding a resolution is becoming increasingly urgent.
Should Arenado remain with the Cardinals for 2025 (at a $21 million salary), the goal is for him to return closer to his former self. While he batted a solid .272 last season, his power significantly dropped, with just 16 home runs and a modest .394 slugging percentage in 152 games. A slight adjustment to his swing might help him produce better results in 2025.
Now, the big question remains: Where will Arenado’s possible comeback take place? St. Louis is eager to find out.
