As the Pittsburgh Steelers aim to strengthen their roster for a successful 2025 season, the NFL Draft will play a crucial role in addressing the team’s remaining gaps.
Wide receiver stands out as one of the top areas of need this offseason. With plans to invest heavily in the position, the Steelers could use a high draft pick to secure a top-tier talent.
One potential target for Pittsburgh is Ohio State’s Emeka Egbuka. He recently took to Instagram to announce his declaration for the draft, just days after helping his team clinch the College Football Playoff National Championship with a win over Notre Dame.
Egbuka wrapped up the 2024 season with 81 receptions, 1,011 yards, and eight touchdowns, including a standout postseason performance with 21 catches for 268 yards and a touchdown.
He joined Ohio State as a true freshman in 2021, recording nine receptions for 191 yards over 10 games. His role expanded in 2022, where he finished with 74 catches for 1,151 yards and 10 touchdowns, playing alongside current Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud.
In 2023, his numbers dipped to 41 receptions for 515 yards and four touchdowns across 10 games, but he bounced back strongly in 2024.
Egbuka is the latest in a long line of standout receivers from Ohio State, following in the footsteps of stars like Garrett Wilson, Chris Olave, Jaxon Smith-Njigba, and Marvin Harrison Jr.
While the Steelers haven’t selected a wide receiver in the first round since picking Santonio Holmes at No. 25 in 2006, there’s growing buzz around Egbuka’s potential fit with the team. In fact, The Athletic’s Dane Brugler projected the Steelers might select him at No. 21 overall this year, making him a player to watch as the draft draws closer.
