The Philadelphia Phillies are built to compete for a championship now, with much of their core already on the wrong side of 30. Still, they’re positioned for long-term success thanks to a front office and development staff skilled at spotting and nurturing young talent.
While their Major League roster is in solid shape under Dave Dombrowski, with no glaring weaknesses, the outfield remains an area that could use some fresh energy. Adding a dynamic player, like Chicago White Sox center fielder Luis Robert Jr., could not only help in the short term but also provide long-term value.
Looking to the future, the Phillies are excited about top outfield prospect Justin Crawford, who’s already impressing at Double-A at just 20 years old. As the son of former MLB star Carl Crawford, Justin has a high ceiling with elite speed, solid defense, and a promising bat.
But as Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter points out, you need more than one strong outfielder to succeed in baseball. In his recent mock draft, Reuter has the Phillies selecting Cal Baptist outfielder Nick Dumesnil with the 26th overall pick in the 2025 MLB Draft.
Dumesnil, standing 6’2″ and weighing 210 pounds, has the makings of a potential 20/20 player. He posted impressive stats in 2024, hitting .362/.440/.702 with 19 doubles, 19 homers, and 45 RBIs in 61 games. His success continued in the Cape Cod League, where he boasted an .866 OPS and 26 steals in 36 games, proving he can handle top competition.
With experience in all three outfield positions, Dumesnil offers versatility, but if he can stick in center field, his upside could be even higher.
