Ole Miss QB Jaxson Dart to Land Blockbuster Deal in NFL Draft

Welcome to SKOL Search 2025!

This marks the fifth year I’ve hosted SKOL Search, dedicated to identifying NFL Draft prospects for the Minnesota Vikings. Throughout the process, this guide will be the most thorough draft resource with a particular focus on the Vikings.

Each year, I evaluate draft prospects from an impartial standpoint, considering how they might align with Minnesota’s needs. This will be general manager Kwesi Adofo-Mensah’s fourth NFL Draft, and by now, we have a clear understanding of what traits he values in a prospect.

As the offseason begins, the Vikings currently hold only three official picks, with a possible fourth in the third round through a compensatory selection. No matter how they utilize them, it’s crucial they maximize their limited resources.

Strengths

  • Production: Dart had an impressive college career, becoming Ole Miss’ all-time leader in passing yards. His strong production profile showcases his ability to perform at a high level.
  • Dual-Threat: Dart thrived in Lane Kiffin’s system, utilizing his mobility to make plays both in the air and on the ground. He could attack vertically through the air and also keep defenses on their toes by pulling the ball and running it himself.
  • Intermediate Passing: While Dart’s arm strength is limited, he excels in the intermediate passing game. He delivers passes with good velocity and accuracy, making him effective at navigating those middle-range throws.

Weaknesses

  • Progressions: The system Dart operated in at Ole Miss doesn’t translate well to the NFL. Lane Kiffin’s offense designed route combinations to easily spring open receivers, leaving little room for Dart to develop progressions, which are essential at the next level.
  • Arm Strength: Despite his name, Dart doesn’t possess elite arm strength. His deep throws lack velocity and tend to lose steam, making it harder to challenge defenses on long balls.
  • Anticipation: A key weakness in Dart’s game is his lack of anticipation. His system often featured wide-open receivers, so Dart didn’t have to read defenses or anticipate windows opening as he would need to in the NFL, where that skill is vital for success.
