Arizona offensive lineman Jonah Savaiinaea is a dominant run blocker, though he may lack the ideal length to handle speedy edge rushers at the NFL level.
Nonetheless, Savaiinaea is a smart player and a versatile lineman who can contribute to moving the ball in the run game. His flexibility also makes him a valuable asset for depth across various positions.
At the Senior Bowl, Savaiinaea practiced both tackle and guard, playing right guard in the game. This suggests his best fit in the NFL might be on the interior.
He displayed strong run-blocking skills from the right guard position during the Senior Bowl and is capable of pulling as well.
A 2023 and 2024 All-Big 12 honorable mention, Savaiinaea began his college career as a right guard but primarily played right tackle at Arizona.
Position: G/T
Projected Round: Late 1st-early 2nd
Height: 6’5
Weight: 339
Fit for Miami
The Dolphins clearly need offensive line help, particularly at guard, with no clarity on their left and right guard positions heading into the 2025 season.
Veteran guards Isaiah Wynn, Robert Jones, and Liam Eichenberg are all set to hit free agency, and Miami could face retirements from Terron Armstead and/or Kendall Lamm.
Savaiinaea is a strong option to fill the right guard spot, helping protect Tua Tagovailoa’s blind side. His biggest asset, however, may be his ability to bring more power to a Miami rushing attack that relies heavily on speed. The Dolphins struggle in short-yardage situations, and Savaiinaea could be instrumental in creating a more balanced ground game.
Bottom Line
While Savaiinaea would be too early a pick at No. 13 overall for the Dolphins, No. 48 might be too late. If Miami decides to trade back in the first round and gain extra picks, selecting him near the end of the first day would be a smart move. If he’s still available at No. 48, the Dolphins should seriously consider him.
