Robb Akey has done it all.
From his days as a student-athlete at Weber State in the late ‘80s, where he played defensive line, linebacker, and even tight end, to his extensive coaching career, Akey’s experience is vast.
As a coach, he’s held roles as a defensive line coach, defensive coordinator, special teams coordinator, and head coach. He’s been part of top-tier Division I NCAA programs like Florida, Pacific Northwest schools like Washington State and Idaho, and has even had two stints in the NFL.
Now, Akey is ready to begin a new chapter in Corvallis.
With 35 years of coaching experience under his belt, Akey joins Trent Bray’s staff as Special Assistant to the Head Coach. He spent the last six years as the Defensive Coordinator at Central Michigan (MAC), and his new position aligns with Bray’s comments to The Oregonian last month, where he mentioned he was looking to hire an analyst with head coaching experience to support him.
Prior to his time at Central Michigan from 2019-2024, Akey had coaching roles with Florida (2017), Washington DC NFL franchise (2015-2016), and the Minnesota Vikings (2014). He was also the head coach at Idaho from 2007-2012.
