Bears Make Surprising Move For Super Bowl Free Agent This Offseason

The Chicago Bears won’t be playing in Super Bowl LIX, and to be honest, they’re nowhere near competing in Super Bowl LX either. However, the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles are set to play in Super Bowl LIX, and both teams have several talented players who could become free agents once the game ends at the Caesars Superdome.

The Bears could certainly benefit from a touch of Super Bowl magic, so here, listed alphabetically, are some potential Chiefs and Eagles free agents who could look great in navy blue and orange.

Mekhi Becton: Philadelphia (OG)

While Kansas City’s Trey Smith is getting a lot of attention, Mekhi Becton might actually be a more sensible choice. At just 25 years old, he stands at an impressive 6’7″ and weighs 364 pounds. His PFF grade of 75.2 ranks him as the 21st-best guard in the league.

His market value is estimated to be between $10 million and $11 million, making him a more affordable option compared to Smith.

Kenneth Gainwell: Philadelphia (RB)

When Gainwell gets the ball, he makes the most of it. However, being behind Saquon Barkley on the depth chart means he won’t see many opportunities, so the 25-year-old is likely to move on from Philadelphia soon.

If GM Ryan Poles isn’t keen on drafting Ashton Jeanty (though he really should be), Gainwell could be a solid complement to D’Andre Swift—or even a potential replacement.

Trey Smith: Kansas City (OG)

Smith is widely regarded as one of the top free agents available—not just one of the best offensive linemen, but one of the best players overall—and the competition for his services could drive his price well beyond Poles’ budget.

The 25-year-old All-Pro would be a fantastic addition, but he’d also take a significant chunk out of the salary cap. It’s a tough decision to make.

Josh Sweat: Philadelphia (EDGE)

Sweat will be entering his 28th year, and as a high-impact pass rusher nearing his prime, he’s expected to be in high demand. However, after Montez Sweat’s underwhelming 2024 season, new defensive coordinator Dennis Allen would be excited to pair him with another Sweat on the edge.

Justin Watson: Kansas City (WR)

Watson knows how to find the end zone. Since 2022, out of his 64 receptions, seven have turned into touchdowns. While he’s not the fastest receiver, he has reliable hands and runs smooth routes—traits the Bears could really use if they decide to part ways with Keenan Allen.

Milton Williams: Philadelphia (DT)

Here’s an interesting stat: PFF reports that Williams’ 2024 pass rush grade was 90.4, making him the second-best defensive tackle in that category. Spotrac estimates his market value at $12 million, but considering he’s young, athletic, and already proven, that could be a smart investment.
