Oregon Ducks Head Coach Makes Big Transfer Portal Move
The Oregon Ducks are not slowing down in their pursuit of a return to the College Football Playoff next season. To strengthen their roster, they’ve once again turned to the transfer portal, adding more defensive talent.
According to On3’s Hayes Fawcett, former Tulane and Ole Miss defensive back Jadon Canady will join the Ducks this fall with one year of eligibility remaining.

Canady, who transferred from Ole Miss after last season, already boasts an impressive career stat line. Standing 5’11” and weighing 185 pounds, he has recorded 115 tackles, 17 pass deflections, and 2 interceptions throughout his college career.
Head coach Dan Lanning faces considerable pressure after Oregon’s inability to reach the national title game this past season, despite a big win over Penn State in the Big Ten Championship. As On3’s J.D. PicKell notes, there’s a perception issue surrounding Oregon.
“Everyone’s going to jump on the idea of, ‘Well hey, just optically remember Oregon getting to these big spots and falling flat,'” PicKell said in a YouTube video. “That’s just kind of who Oregon is in our minds, and we don’t really care too much about who the head coach is. But that uniform, that logo—it’s cursed.”
PicKell added that Dan Lanning, who wasn’t involved in Oregon’s past national title loss to Ohio State, still faces the weight of that legacy. “It’s not Dan Lanning’s situation—he has to deal with it now.”
While it’s still unclear whether Canady will be one of several key contributors next season, the Ducks are poised for continued success. According to 247 Sports’ Team Composite Rankings, Oregon has the fifth-best recruiting class for 2025 and the top class for 2026. With that talent influx, Lanning is set up for success, but the challenge now is executing at the highest level.
