Oregon Ducks Face Stiff Competition from SEC, Big Ten for QB

Two months after a successful Early National Signing Day, Oregon Ducks head coach Dan Lanning and his staff have shifted their focus to building the 2025 roster and strengthening the 2026 recruiting class. The Ducks are off to a strong start in the 2026 recruiting cycle, currently holding the top spot in 247Sports’ rankings. However, according to a recent On3Sports report, one of Oregon’s top commits is now attracting attention from other programs.

On Friday, Steve Wiltfong, a leading recruiting insider for On3Sports, reported that USC and LSU are actively pursuing 4-star quarterback commit Jonas Williams. Williams is ranked as the No. 13 QB in the 2025 class and No. 189 overall by 247Sports.

Williams has been committed to Oregon since early August 2024, shortly after attending a Ducks mini-camp. Before his commitment, he had listed Oregon, LSU, USC, and Ohio State as his top choices and took an unofficial visit to LSU.

Wiltfong’s report also states that Williams visited USC over the weekend, and LSU remains a strong contender for his commitment, despite his verbal agreement with Oregon.

As a player, Williams is a true dual-threat quarterback with quick legs and a precise arm. Standing at 6 foot 1 inch, he is a bit undersized, but Oregon has proven it can run a high-powered offense with a smaller quarterback.

One challenge for Williams at Oregon could be the competition at quarterback. By the time Williams starts as a freshman in 2026, it’s expected that Dante Moore will be the starting QB, with Austin Novosad, Luke Moga, and Akili Smith Jr. also in the mix, assuming no transfers. With so much talent in the QB room, playing time could become a significant factor in his decision.
