The Jets could face a $49 million dead money hit next season unless they designate Aaron Rodgers as a post-June 1 cut, spreading the charge over two years. This would keep Rodgers on the roster, with a $23.5 million cap hit, until the NFL’s new league year begins on March 12.
Rodgers, traded to the Jets in April 2023 after 18 seasons with the Packers, hoped to end the team’s Super Bowl drought. However, his first season ended after just four snaps due to a torn Achilles. Despite returning in 2024, Rodgers and the offense struggled, finishing with a 5-12 record.
Jets owner Woody Johnson expressed gratitude for Rodgers’ time in New York, while Rodgers set franchise records with 28 touchdowns and 3,897 passing yards. However, injuries and inconsistent play led to disappointment.
Rodgers now faces uncertainty about his future, with the Jets likely searching for a new QB. Rodgers could return to a title-contending team if he chooses to continue his career.
