Oregon State’s search for an offensive line coach was brief, as the Beavers quickly turned to their past and decided to hire Mike Cavanaugh.
Cavanaugh takes over the role from Kyle DeVan, who stepped down on Friday to join the NFL’s Chicago Bears as an assistant coach, according to ESPN.
Cavanaugh previously coached Oregon State’s offensive line under Mike Riley from 2005 to 2014. Most recently, he worked as an offensive analyst at Oregon, starting in early 2023.
Over his 10 years at Oregon State, Cavanaugh coached three All-Americans: Andy Levitre, Jeremy Perry, and Isaac Seumalo.
After leaving Oregon State in 2014, Cavanaugh followed Riley to Nebraska for three years, and has also coached offensive linemen at Syracuse, Arizona State, Hawaii, and several smaller schools. With 37 years of college coaching experience, Cavanaugh also spent two years coaching with the NFL’s San Diego Chargers.
