Red Sox’s Trade-Deadline Pickup Heads to NL Powerhouse!
Luis Garcia, after a disappointing stint with the Boston Red Sox, is looking to bounce back with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Garcia, 38, has signed a minor league contract with the Dodgers, which includes an invitation to spring training. Prior to joining Boston, he posted a respectable 3.71 ERA in 45 appearances for the Los Angeles Angels in 2024. However, his performance sharply declined after a trade to the Red Sox, where he struggled with an 8.22 ERA and 1.630 WHIP in 15 appearances, battling injuries throughout his time in Boston.

The Red Sox likely regret the trade, which sent four prospects—Matthew Lugo, Yeferson Vargas, Ryan Zeferjahn, and Niko Kavadas—to the Angels. Zeferjahn, in particular, immediately contributed to the Angels’ bullpen with a stellar 2.12 ERA and 0.765 WHIP in 12 relief appearances. His strong performance raised questions about how much the Red Sox’s playoff chances may have been impacted by Garcia’s poor showing in critical games. It’s safe to say that Boston’s postseason hopes would have been more secure had they kept Zeferjahn.
Despite his rough patch with Boston, Garcia remains a hard-throwing reliever with a solid track record, including five seasons with a sub-4.00 ERA. The Dodgers, known for having one of the best bullpens in baseball, could potentially benefit from Garcia as a depth option. His ability to rediscover his form could add value to an already stacked pitching staff, offering the Dodgers another experienced arm to strengthen their bullpen.
