
The Dallas Mavericks have suspended assistant coach Darrell Armstrong following his arrest and charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
According to the Dallas Police Department, officers responded to a dispute call around 3:45 a.m. Saturday. Preliminary findings suggest that Armstrong and the alleged victim were involved in an argument, during which Armstrong reportedly struck the victim with a gun and threatened to shoot her.
Armstrong was booked into jail before 7:30 a.m. and faces assault with a deadly weapon charges. His bond was set at $35,000, which he has posted. Authorities noted that Armstrong and the alleged victim are acquainted.

The Mavericks issued a statement confirming their awareness of an incident involving a staff member, but did not disclose names. The team mentioned that the employee had been placed on administrative suspension pending the legal outcome. They emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to proceed and refrained from further comment.
Armstrong, in his 10th season with the Mavericks, has been a key figure on the coaching staff since 2008, contributing to the team’s 2011 NBA Finals win. He had a notable 14-season NBA career, winning the Sixth Man Award and Most Improved Player Award in 1999 with the Orlando Magic, and playing for several teams, including two seasons with Dallas.
