Dolphins Revitalize Defense with ACC Talent in 2025 NFL Mock Draft
The Miami Dolphins face a high-stakes 2025 NFL Draft, where a misstep could lead to a tough season and possibly cost GM Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel their jobs after a disappointing 2024 campaign.
The silver lining for Miami is that several of the positions they need most are filled with top-tier talent in this year’s draft class. The Dolphins don’t have to look far to find quality players, as many of their prime picks could come from the ACC, boosting the roster significantly.
In this 3-round 2025 NFL Mock Draft, the Dolphins target four standout ACC players, setting the stage for a more solid foundation heading into the 2025 season.
Round 1, Pick 23: Azareye’h Thomas, CB, Florida State
With Jalen Ramsey aging, Miami is in need of a secondary boost to keep up with the AFC’s elite quarterbacks. While Thomas may need some development as a rookie, he has the potential to grow into a Pro Bowl-caliber cornerback.
Standing out with impressive length and ball skills, Thomas possesses the traits necessary for a top-tier corner. If Miami can help him refine his tackling and run defense, expect Thomas to make an immediate impact and eventually take over for Ramsey.
Round 2, Pick 48: Elic Ayomanor, WR, Stanford
With ongoing Tyreek Hill trade rumors and Jaylen Waddle’s injury history, wide receiver becomes a pressing need for the Dolphins. Ayomanor could be a strong fit, offering a complementary style to both Hill and Waddle.
While Ayomanor isn’t the fastest, his stellar route running, physicality at the line of scrimmage, and reliable hands make him a productive receiver. He could serve as a valuable short-range option for Tua Tagovailoa, alongside Jonnu Smith, while Waddle stretches the defense downfield.
Round 2, Pick 54: Joshua Farmer, DT, Florida State
Once considered a Day 3 pick, Farmer has surged up draft boards following standout performances at the Senior Bowl. With Calais Campbell’s future uncertain, Miami might look to add another piece to their young defensive line, anchored by rookie sensation Chop Robinson.
Farmer is still a work in progress and will need development, particularly in hand placement and playing with a lower pad level. If he refines these areas, he could bolster the Dolphins’ pass rush and make an immediate impact.
Round 3, Pick 98: Kyle McCord, QB, Syracuse
While the Dolphins might opt for a veteran backup quarterback, GM Chris Grier and coach Mike McDaniel need to ensure Tua Tagovai loahas a reliable backup in case his injury concerns resurface. A transfer from Ohio State, McCord led the nation in passing yards last season.
Though McCord isn’t the most mobile quarterback and struggles outside of the pocket, his exceptional accuracy, quick release, and impressive production make him an attractive option for teams like Miami. In McDaniel’s system, McCord could thrive as a solid backup.
