Oregon Ducks Hires Ex-Orange Assistant as new WR coach

Oregon Ducks Appoint Former Syracuse Assistant as New Wide Receivers Coach

After the departure of Junior Adams, Oregon’s former co-offensive coordinator and wide receivers coach, the Ducks were in need of a replacement. Now, head coach Dan Lanning has turned to Ross Douglas, former wide receivers coach at Syracuse, to take over the position.

Douglas, who spent just one season with the Syracuse Orange, previously worked on the New England Patriots‘ coaching staff from 2021 to 2023, holding roles such as defensive quality control coach, assistant wide receivers coach, and, most recently, wide receivers coach in 2023.

His coaching journey began at his alma mater, Rutgers, in 2018, after playing two seasons for their football team. Douglas’ collegiate career started with the Michigan Wolverines in 2013 before transferring to Rutgers in 2016.

While filling the role once held by the popular Adams is a big task, Douglas comes highly respected, with those who have worked with him praising his coaching abilities. “He’s a tremendous coach,” said Neil Adler, Syracuse expert. “He’s likely the most respected coach on the ‘Cuse staff, aside from HC Brown and maybe Jeff Nixon.”

Despite Adams’ departure, Lanning and the Ducks have had a strong offseason. Earlier this winter, Ra’shaad Samples turned down an opportunity with the Dallas Cowboys to remain with Oregon.

The Ducks will begin their 2025 season on August 30 against the Montana State Bobcats, looking to build on their successful 2024 campaign.
