76ers Star Stirs Up Rival Fans with Half-Hearted Joke!
The Philadelphia 76ers have been a source of frustration this season, with fans divided between those hoping the team tanks for a high lottery pick and others still clinging to hopes of a playoff run despite a poor record. The team’s struggles are compounded by a lack of marketability, as evidenced by the absence of any 76ers players at the All-Star Weekend events. This highlights the team’s ongoing inconsistency, internal issues, and misaligned priorities that have affected their chemistry.

Joel Embiid doesn’t fully align with either side of the fan divide, though he leans more toward the tanking camp. His season has been plagued by injuries, which have become a constant, unwelcome force impacting his performance.
However, Embiid briefly stirred up some drama with a comment during the Netflix documentary Court of Gold, which covered the 2024 Summer Olympics. In the documentary, Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton tried to recruit Embiid to join the Pacers, but Embiid quickly rejected the idea, saying he’d rather retire than play for Indiana. Pacers fans responded by mocking Embiid and jokingly thanking him for not wanting to join their team.
Embiid’s stock has taken a hit due to his frequent injuries and his age—now on the wrong side of 30. Meanwhile, the Pacers have bounced back after a slow start and are now the No. 4 seed in the Eastern Conference. While the 76ers and Pacers are unlikely to meet in the playoffs, Embiid can expect to face boos whenever he plays in Indianapolis moving forward.
