Jets Shockingly Linked Deal With $114 Million Aaron Rodgers Replacement

The New York Jets recently parted ways with veteran quarterback Aaron Rodgers and are now focused on finding his replacement. Although solid options are limited in the market, the Jets are expected to explore several possibilities in the coming weeks.

Cody Benjamin of CBS Sports recently named the Jets as a potential destination for free-agent quarterback Sam Darnold. Darnold, who had a challenging three-year stint with the Jets, is expected to sign a deal worth $114 million this offseason, according to Benjamin.

“Darnold, the former No. 3 overall pick, has rebuilt his reputation after a rough start to his career with the Jets and Carolina Panthers. After a season under the San Francisco 49ers’ guidance, he had a breakout year with the Vikings,” Benjamin wrote. “Despite his impressive 35-touchdown performance under Kevin O’Connell, Darnold faltered in the Vikings’ final two crucial games.”

“The Vikings appreciate Darnold’s talent, but they’re also high on their 2024 first-round pick, J.J. McCarthy. The bargain option worked well for Minnesota when they let Kirk Cousins go. Meanwhile, Darnold might want to seize the opportunity for a big contract while he still can.”

Although Darnold may be hesitant to return to the Jets after being let go years ago, the change in coaching staff and general manager could open the door to a reunion.

For the Jets, this could be one of the best options available this offseason. With a talented roster already in place, they simply need a capable quarterback to lead the team.
