Arizona 1,700-Yard RB athlete Poised to Boost NFL Draft Stock Combine

Arizona State running back Cam Skattebo made a name for himself with a breakout 2024 season, catching the attention of college football fans. Standing 5-foot-11 and weighing 215 Skattebopounds,  amassed 1,711 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. He also recorded 605 receiving yards and three touchdowns on 45 receptions. NFL draft analyst Bucky Brooks believes Skattebo has the potential to significantly improve his draft stock in the coming weeks, particularly during the scouting combine and evaluation period leading up to the 2025 NFL Draft. Brooks described Skattebo as “almost like an urban legend,” gaining widespread recognition after dominating the Big 12 in 2024.

With his impressive strength, power, balance, and body control, Skattebo is seen as a perfect fit for a downhill running system. Although he’s also a capable pass catcher with impressive playmaking ability in space, Skattebo is considered a throwback style player, well-suited for the NFL’s evolving running back landscape. If he performs well at the combine, Skattebo could convince NFL teams that he’s ready to be a primary running back in the pros.

Despite his standout 2024 season, Skattebo doesn’t yet rank among the top prospects on draft boards. Athlon Sports’ Luke Easterling places him at No. 8 in his running back rankings for the 2025 NFL Draft, while ESPN’s Mel Kiper also slots him at No. 8 in his positional rankings. The 23-year-old was a first-team All-American and first-team All-Big 12 in 2024. Although Arizona State lost to Texas 39-31 in a double-overtime Peach Bowl thriller, Skattebo was named the game’s offensive MVP after rushing for 143 yards, two touchdowns, and catching eight passes for 99 yards.
