Patriots Land AFC West Star in Striking Trade Proposal

While the New England Patriots clearly need help at wide receiver and along the offensive line, they also have another pressing issue to address: their pass rush.

The Patriots only registered 28 sacks in 2024, the lowest in the NFL.

Aside from Keion White, New England lacks natural pass rushers on their roster, making this a critical need to address in the offseason.

Jason Reed from Bolt Beat has suggested a potential solution: Los Angeles Chargers defensive end Joey Bosa.

The Chargers are considering parting ways with Bosa, which would free up $25 million in cap space. Reed proposes the Patriots acquire Bosa for a fifth-round draft pick.

“The Patriots might not be a Super Bowl contender like the Lions, but they are a team on the rise with a promising quarterback in Drake Maye,” Reed wrote. “New England should capitalize on Maye’s rookie contract window, potentially by making a move for Bosa.”

Bosa appeared in 14 games this past season, totaling 22 tackles and five sacks. Despite his relatively underwhelming performance, he earned his fifth Pro Bowl selection.

It’s evident that Bosa’s performance is declining, which might make New England hesitant to pursue him, even though they desperately need a pass rusher.

The 29-year-old has played just 28 games in the last three seasons due to injury issues, and he no longer dominates like he once did.

While the cost to acquire Bosa may not be high, his financial impact would be significant, as his cap hit for the Patriots would exceed $25 million.
