Oregon State Makes Strategic Staff Boost with New Hire

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Oregon State football announced Wednesday that Pat McCann has been hired as the new wide receivers coach.

Before joining the Beavers, McCann spent three seasons at Fresno State (2022-24), where he served as both the wide receivers coach and offensive coordinator. Under his guidance, several players, including Mac Dalena and Raylen Sharpe, earned First-Team All-Mountain West honors.

McCann’s career took a major turn during his time at Eastern Washington (2019-21). There, he coached the wide receivers, coordinated the passing game, briefly served as recruiting coordinator, and even stepped in as offensive coordinator.

In 2021, Eastern Washington finished with a 10-3 record, ranked in the top 25 among FCS teams, and made the playoffs. The offense, under McCann’s leadership, averaged 555.7 yards per game, setting several program records in passing yards, total offense yards, pass attempts, and passing touchdowns.

Oregon State head coach Trent Bray praised McCann’s impact, saying, “His wide receiving corps have made immediate impacts at every stop, and he’s coming to lead a talented group here at Oregon State.”

McCann’s coaching career also includes stints as wide receivers coach at Northern Iowa (2017-18), UC Davis (2013-16), and Stonehill College (2009-12), where he began his coaching journey.

As a student-athlete at Western Washington, McCann earned First-Team All-Conference honors in 2008 as a wide receiver, accumulating 1,057 yards and 11 touchdowns that season.
