The Denver Broncos are seeking a new starting running back, and they can address this need either through free agency or the NFL Draft. According to Bleacher Report, the team is eyeing former Minnesota Vikings running back Aaron Jones. Jones, who just completed his eighth NFL season, rushed for 1,186 yards, his third-highest total in his career. However, his yards-per-carry average dropped to 4.4, the lowest of his career. In addition to his rushing abilities, Jones is a valuable asset in the passing game.
Broncos head coach Sean Payton is looking for a versatile “joker” for the offense, and Jones could fill that role effectively from the backfield. Adding Jones is made possible by the rookie contract of Bo Nix, which provides the Broncos with more cap space flexibility to add talent without worrying about salary constraints. Denver’s current running back situation is underwhelming, with Javonte Williams gaining only 542 rushing yards in 2024, while Jaleel McLaughlin and Audric Estime ran for 494 and 310 yards, respectively. Bringing in Jones would address the Broncos’ running back need and provide a significant boost to the offense. His combination of rushing and receiving skills is exactly what the team is seeking. If the Bleacher Report prediction proves accurate, Jones will become the Broncos’ primary running back, helping Bo Nix and providing Payton with the versatile “joker” weapon he desires.
