$160M Pro Bowl QB eyeing Seahawks after Geno trade!

The Seattle Seahawks traded two-time Pro Bowl quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders for a third-round pick on Friday, signaling a shift in their quarterback plans. Now, the team is reportedly focused on acquiring Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold, who is also interested in heading to Seattle. According to Fox Sports’ Jordan Schultz, Darnold is the Seahawks’ top target, and his return to the Vikings appears unlikely.

Darnold, 27, is coming off a career-best season in Minnesota after signing a one-year bridge deal following his stint as Brock Purdy’s backup in San Francisco. He led the Vikings to a 14-3 record while throwing for over 4,300 yards and 35 touchdowns, earning his first Pro Bowl selection. With free agency set to begin on March 12, Darnold is expected to be the most sought-after quarterback on the market.

By moving on from Smith, Seattle joins several teams in need of a starting quarterback, including the Tennessee Titans, Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, New York Jets, and Pittsburgh Steelers. Some of these teams may look to the NFL Draft for a solution, possibly targeting Miami’s Cam Ward or Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders. However, at least three franchises are expected to continue searching for a proven starter this offseason.

Darnold’s breakout season and relative youth make him a valuable commodity in free agency, potentially commanding a contract worth $40 million per year. His strong performance last season has made him a prime target for quarterback-needy teams, with Seattle emerging as a serious contender for his services.
