Eagles-Browns Reportedly Flipping Quarterbacks In Trade

The Philadelphia Eagles are reportedly parting ways with one of their quarterbacks. Ahead of the 2024 season, the team brought in Kenny Pickett, who served as Jalen Hurts’ backup throughout the year. Pickett proved to be a reliable reserve, even starting in Week 18 and seeing some action in the Super Bowl. Now, he’ll get a chance to vie for a starting role with another team.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Eagles are sending Pickett to the Cleveland Browns in a trade that brings 25-year-old quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a fifth-round pick to Philadelphia.

Rapoport reported, “Trade! The Browns are acquiring QB Kenny Pickett from the Eagles in exchange for Dorian Thompson-Robinson and a 2024 5th round pick (originally from the #Lions), sources say. Kenny Pickett comes in to compete and bolster the Browns’ QB room.”

The Browns’ quarterback situation remains uncertain. Deshaun Watson is on the roster, but a recurring Achilles injury has left his availability for 2025 in doubt. In 2024, Thompson-Robinson stepped in at times after Jameis Winston, going 0-2 with 440 passing yards and six interceptions.

Thompson-Robinson now joins the Eagles, where he’s likely to compete with Tanner McKee for the backup spot behind Hurts. While it’s unclear what Philadelphia’s next steps will be, Pickett heads to Cleveland with an opportunity to fight for a starting job, and the Eagles gain another promising young quarterback in the deal.
