The Baltimore Ravens have kicked off their free agency moves by securing offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley with a new contract and bringing in wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins from the Kansas City Chiefs.
The Ravens could benefit from targeting another one of Hopkins’ ex-teammates from Kansas City in their next free agency decision.
Anthony Palacios, a writer for Last Word on Sports, suggests that the Ravens could be a fit for Chiefs defensive end Charles Omenihu, a member of the Super Bowl LVIII-winning squad.
Palacios noted, “The Baltimore Ravens have yet to replace Jadeveon Clowney effectively since his departure last offseason. While Broderick Washington and Travis Jones show potential as defensive linemen, they don’t yet match Nnamdi Madubuike’s level. Omenihu could step into a starting position alongside Roquan Smith, boosting the pass rush.”
At 27, Omenihu missed much of the season due to injury but returned late in the year. He contributed six tackles and a sack across six regular-season games for the Chiefs, and during Kansas City’s playoff push toward Super Bowl LIV—which ended in a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles—he added nine tackles and a sack.
Selected in the fifth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Houston Texans, Omenihu has built an impressive postseason resume. Over the past four years, split between the Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers, he has never exited the playoffs before the conference championship round.
That kind of playoff know-how is priceless and could give the Ravens a slight advantage against teams like the Chiefs or Buffalo Bills.
Though Omenihu might not transform games single-handedly, he has the potential to tip the scales with subtle yet critical contributions.
