Auburn Tigers Positioned to Land Rivals Standout Star

It’s widely known that the Auburn Tigers are facing a pressing need at running back following Jarquez Hunter’s final season. Even with Durrell Robinson joining via the transfer portal from UConn and Alvin Henderson arriving in the 2025 class, the team will likely require another running back by 2026.

Damari Alston is slated to start in 2025, but as a senior, he’ll be gone the following year, leaving Auburn to search for their next explosive talent at the position. They may have found a solution in four-star prospect Jae Lamar. If Lamar signs with Auburn, he and Henderson could form a formidable duo in the backfield in just a few years.

Lamar ranks as the ninth-best running back in the 2026 recruiting class and is being pursued by a host of elite programs, including Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee, Clemson, Ohio State, and FSU, as reported by Auburn Wire.

He plans to announce his commitment to one of his top 10 schools by July 4. Per 247Sports, Georgia currently holds the strongest appeal for Lamar, with FSU, Miami, and Auburn also in contention. These four schools stand out as his top choices, being the only ones he’s scheduled official visits with, according to 247Sports.

Though Lamar has another year of high school football ahead, he has the potential to step into a role similar to Jarquez Hunter’s. With no clear successor at running back, Auburn is eager to recruit a player with comparable physical traits to Hunter, who stood at 5-10 and 209 pounds.

Lamar, already 6-0 and 205 pounds, could develop into a powerhouse with SEC-level strength and conditioning, making him a daunting force against opposing defenses.
