Patriots Abruptly Lose Four Major Stars

The New England Patriots are generating significant buzz during the offseason, positioning themselves as one of the most enhanced teams for the 2025 NFL Season. This comes after acquiring notable talents like defensive tackle Milton Williams, cornerback Carlton Davis III, and linebackers Robert Spillane and Harold Landry III.

Under the guidance of new head coach Mike Vrabel, the Patriots are actively refining their roster, even if it involves parting ways with existing players.

On Friday, the team made the decision to release four athletes: linebackers Curtis Jacobs and Andrew Parker Jr., tackle Caleb Jones, and center Lecitus Smith. Of these, only Jacobs and Smith saw game time with New England last season.

At 23 years old, Jacobs participated in nine games, starting two, and recorded one defensive tackle and three special teams tackles. He was sidelined late in the 2024 season due to an injury that landed him on the reserve list.

Smith, aged 26, joined the Patriots in October 2024 from Green Bay’s practice squad. He appeared in eight games and notably started as a tackle-eligible tight end in a matchup against the New York Jets.

Both Parker and Jones, who had been on the practice squad, signed futures contracts with the team on January 6.

While the Patriots have not indicated plans to re-sign any of the released players, the upcoming 2025 NFL Draft offers an opportunity to bolster these positions with their six available picks.
