Michigan State Pipeline Stays Strong With Latest Offer

On Saturday, Michigan State hosted its spring football practice, attracting a significant number of talented high school athletes eager to explore the campus firsthand. Among the visitors in East Lansing was Chad Willis, a 2027 wide receiver from Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, who received an offer from the Spartans during his visit.

Greg Dixon, the recruiting coordinator at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s, believes the Michigan State coaching staff has gained their confidence through their meticulous approach to building relationships. “The MSU staff has been highly approachable, reliable, and forthcoming in all interactions with every player they recruit,” Dixon shared with Michigan State Spartans On SI. “With consistent communication from various staff members, these traits shone through, enabling us to quickly establish trust in them.” This openness and accessibility set the Spartan staff apart from many other programs, both within the Big Ten and nationwide.

As for Willis, he’s a swift wide receiver known for his fluid release and exceptional, game-altering speed. His explosiveness and ability to shift directions effortlessly make him elusive after the catch, allowing him to pile up significant yardage.

Leading the charge for the receivers is wide receivers coach Courtney Hawkins, who has been tirelessly scouting players that align with his system and vision for the position at East Lansing. Hawkins’ success is well-documented, having significantly contributed to the development of current NFL talents like Jayden Reed (Packers), Jalen Nailor (Vikings), and Keon Coleman (Bills), alongside many other professionals he’s helped reach the league.

While the 2026 recruiting class is the current priority, laying the groundwork with top prospects early is equally critical. The 2027 athletes, like Willis, who are receiving offers now, are unmistakably high on East Lansing’s radar.

Head Coach Jonathan Smith, Coach Hawkins, and the rest of the staff have been proactive with recent visits and offers. The start of spring ball serves as another opportunity for the Spartans to highlight the program they’re shaping and demonstrate the effort they’re investing.
