Coach Jonathan Smith and the Michigan State team have been swamped with work lately. They’ve been juggling spring football practices and arranging recruiting visits, keeping the program on its toes. Their next major recruiting event is now in place.
Carter Gooden, a four-star edge rusher from the class of 2026 out of Massachusetts, took to social media on Wednesday to share that he’ll be making an official visit to East Lansing on June 2.

In addition to Michigan State, Gooden has a busy visit schedule lined up: he’ll stop by Rutgers on May 30, Penn State on June 6, Syracuse on June 13, and conclude his tour at Boston College on June 20.
According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Gooden holds the top spot in Massachusetts and ranks as the No. 30 EDGE prospect in the 2026 class. The Spartans have been heavily involved in recruiting Gooden for a while, extending an offer to him back in October 2024.
Prep Redzone’s Roger Silva provided the following insights in a scouting report on Gooden.
