
The Phillies have acquired right-handed pitcher Brett de Geus off waivers from the Miami Marlins and assigned him to Triple-A Lehigh Valley.
The announcement was made by Phillies President of Baseball Operations, Dave Dombrowski.
De Geus, 27, made 13 relief appearances in 2024 with the Seattle Mariners, Marlins, and Toronto Blue Jays, posting a 7.15 ERA (9 ER, 11.1 IP) and recording nine scoreless outings. According to Statcast, the 6-foot-2 right-hander averaged 96.4 mph on his sinker last season, placing him in the 86th percentile for fastball velocity. Over the 2021 and 2024 seasons, he has made 60 relief appearances, with a 3-4 record and a 7.48 ERA (51 ER, 61.1 IP).
A native of Pleasanton, California, de Geus was originally drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 33rd round of the 2017 MLB Draft.
