Three Gophers Stars Announce Plans to Enter Transfer Portal

Three Minnesota Gophers football players have declared their intent to enter the transfer portal, with the possibility of more to follow. As of Tuesday night, linebacker David Amaliri and defensive backs Obe Eyafe and Chris Flowers have publicly shared their plans.

Amaliri, a 6-foot-4 linebacker from Winnipeg, joined Minnesota in the 2024 class. A three-star recruit, he redshirted last season, retaining four years of eligibility. He chose the Gophers over offers from North Dakota State, North Dakota, Kent State, and Syracuse.

Obe Eyafe, a standout safety from Andover High School in the Twin Cities, graduated in 2024 and joined the Gophers as a walk-on. He redshirted last season, preserving four years of eligibility. Eyafe had offers from Yale and Wyoming before signing with Minnesota.

Chris Flowers also redshirted in 2024.

The college football spring transfer portal opens Wednesday, April 16, and closes Friday, April 25. With the new 105-player roster limit, it’s expected that some Gophers will enter the portal this spring.
