Over the past two days, the Minnesota Golden Gophers football team has bolstered its special teams by adding two punters to its roster, addressing the loss of veteran punter Mark Crawford, who exhausted his eligibility after five seasons. The team entered the offseason with only redshirt sophomore Caleb McGrath and true freshman Luke Ryerse, who also plays baseball for Minnesota.
On Wednesday, the Gophers welcomed Tom Weston, a Division II punter from Fremantle, Australia, who averaged 44.2 yards per punt last season at Ouachita Baptist in Arkansas. Additionally, UCLA transfer Brody Richter is reportedly joining the roster after visiting Minnesota over the weekend. Richter averaged 42.8 yards per punt on 40 punts for UCLA last season, with a long of 61 yards and 17 punts pinned inside the opponent’s 20-yard line. He previously punted for Northern Arizona, averaging 43.1 yards.
