Notre Dame quarterback Riley Leonard made history on Saturday as the first Fighting Irish QB to be selected in the NFL draft, going 189th overall to the Indianapolis Colts. Leonard now heads to Indianapolis, where he may have the opportunity to rise through the quarterback depth chart.
While the Colts have a number of quarterbacks on the roster, none of them are guaranteed starters. Anthony Richardson, a recent high draft pick, is still developing, while Daniel Jones arrives after a rough stint with the New York Giants. Jason Bean, formerly of Kansas, has also been a part of the Colts’ roster over the past two years, though his role has fluctuated.
The future is uncertain for Leonard, but his next chapter is set in Indianapolis, where excitement surrounding his arrival was palpable on Saturday.
