Patriots Strike Gold with SEC Star in 2025 NFL Draft

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. — With the fourth overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots have selected LSU left tackle Will Campbell.

By making Campbell their pick, the Patriots are addressing their biggest roster need while also securing a cornerstone piece for the future.

New England made its move after the Tennessee Titans took quarterback Cam Ward first overall, the Jacksonville Jaguars (via trade) selected cornerback/receiver Travis Hunter at No. 2, and the New York Giants grabbed linebacker Abdul Carter at No. 3.

Considered by many the top offensive lineman in this year’s draft, Campbell checks nearly every box for an NFL tackle. The 21-year-old standout combines physical strength and technical skill with highly praised leadership qualities, making him a trusted figure among teammates and coaches.

Given their critical need at left tackle, Campbell clearly impressed New England’s decision-makers.

One lingering concern around Campbell was his arm length. Despite standing 6’6″ and weighing 319 pounds, he measured just 32 ⅝ inches at the NFL Scouting Combine — slightly below the unofficial 33-inch benchmark scouts often prefer. However, he met that mark at his pro day workout in March.

While many expected the Patriots to target an offensive tackle at No. 4, head coach Mike Vrabel and the front office kept all options open, even entertaining trade offers throughout the day. Ultimately, no offer matched the value New England placed on their top pick.

Now, the responsibility of protecting quarterback Drake Maye’s blindside rests firmly on Campbell’s shoulders.
