Knicks Plot Major Trade with Northwest Division Titan

The New York Knicks are set with their roster for the upcoming playoff push, but there are still several hypothetical scenarios floating around regarding potential trades.

One such scenario involves a deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder that would send Precious Achiuwa and Tyler Kolek to the top team in the Western Conference in exchange for veteran forward Kenrich Williams.

As Bleacher Report’s Andy Bailey pointed out, finding a trade that works for the Knicks is tough, since head coach Tom Thibodeau is unlikely to give significant minutes to anyone outside the regular rotation. Plus, many of the assets that could be used in trade packages for upgrades have already been spent.

This brings up the possibility of smaller moves, like using Achiuwa’s $6 million expiring contract, which aligns well with Williams’ salary.

To make the deal work financially, a few players making around $2 million, like Kolek, would need to be included. The idea is to avoid having to give up additional assets, such as second-round picks.

Bailey noted that while Williams doesn’t play a major role for the Thunder, he’s a solid contributor. At 30 years old, he’s a versatile defender, has made 38.7% of his three-pointers over the past five seasons, and is a willing passer.

From the Thunder’s perspective, they have plenty of young wing talent to absorb the loss of Williams, and acquiring Kolek gives them a cheap backup guard option with a contract that runs through 2027-28.

Williams could fill the role of a much-needed combo forward for the Knicks off the bench, making this potential trade something to keep an eye on if the two teams pursue it during the offseason.
