The gossip is swirling again as we head into a crucial phase of the summer transfer window, with two players potentially heading to Newcastle. Brazilian midfielder Arthur Melo is one of them.
Starting with Pavlovic, HITC reports that Newcastle are interested in the 23-year-old and are ready to compete with Aston Villa, Chelsea, and Wolves for his signature this summer.
Interestingly, the 6ft 4′ RB Salzburg defender was on loan from Monaco to partner club Cercle Brugge while our new sporting director Paul Mitchell was involved with both clubs. Mitchell, aged 42, served as a strategic advisor for the Belgian side as part of Monaco’s multi-club model.
However, signing another left-sided centre-back this summer seems unlikely, given Pavlovic’s profile similar to Lloyd Kelly, who arrived on a free transfer from Bournemouth last month. Instead, a young, athletic right-sided centre-back is expected to join, which explains the renewed interest in AC Milan’s Malick Thiaw.
In other news, MARCA reports that Newcastle have inquired about a possible move for Juventus midfielder Arthur Melo, aged 27. The Spanish outlet suggests that despite interest from La Liga, Arthur is keen on returning to the Premier League after a disappointing stint at Anfield two years ago.
Arthur is set to depart Juventus this summer after an impressive loan spell at Fiorentina last season. While I’m somewhat skeptical about this link, the possibility of another midfielder arriving remains open, especially with Elliot Anderson’s move to Nottingham Forest, uncertainties surrounding Sean Longstaff’s future, and Lewis Miley’s three-month injury layoff.
