Sheffield United are close to finalizing a deal with free agent left-back Sam McCallum before their first pre-season match this weekend, as reported by The Star. McCallum, who recently departed Norwich City, is set to bolster the Blades’ options on the left wing-back position. This move comes after Sheffield United saw Max Lowe and Yasser Larouci leave, along with Ben Osborn’s departure to Derby County after his contract expired.
Despite their pursuit of Peterborough United’s Harrison Burrows, Sheffield United’s interest in McCallum remains separate and is progressing smoothly. McCallum, aged 23, made 34 appearances for Norwich last season and featured prominently in their playoff campaign against Leeds United.
Former Norwich manager David Wagner praised McCallum’s development, noting his transition from a defensively oriented full-back to one who excels in attack. Wagner highlighted McCallum’s offensive prowess, aerial ability, and professional demeanor, suggesting the potential for further improvement in his game.
