Manchester City are bracing themselves for offers for striker Liam Delap following interest from several Premier League clubs. Delap, who made headlines by scoring on his senior debut under Pep Guardiola at just 17, was recently seen at Ipswich’s training ground. Southampton is among the clubs keen on the 21-year-old, who revived his career on loan at Hull City last season after less successful spells at Stoke and Preston.
Newcastle United has been encouraged to make a £20 million bid for Delap amid uncertainty over Callum Wilson’s future with the club. Delap made an impressive debut for City in 2020, scoring against Bournemouth in the Carabao Cup, and has since made appearances in the Premier League. City, known for their ability to profit from young talent, are poised to earn a significant sum from Delap’s sale, continuing their trend of selling promising players for substantial fees.
The club remains committed to nurturing valuable homegrown talent despite changes in their academy coaching staff. Brian Barry-Murphy, who led the Under-21s, has departed after three years, with Ben Wilkinson moving up from the Under-18s and Oliver Reiss set to join from Hertha Berlin to fill the vacancy.
