BREAKING NEWS: Mets officially confirm the signing of another top prominent star

Right-handed pitcher Brendan Girton attended Shattuck High School in Shattuck, Oklahoma, where he compiled a cumulative 2.84 ERA throughout his varsity career. He was recognized as a standout player, earning a place on the Oklahoma All-State team and drawing considerable attention from scouts. Despite this, Girton went undrafted in the abbreviated 2020 MLB Draft and opted to honor his commitment to Texas Tech University.

Initially utilized mainly in relief during his freshman year with the Red Raiders, Girton appeared in 18 games, including two starts, and recorded a 5.47 ERA over 24.2 innings. He faced 21 hits, issued 19 walks, and struck out 23 batters. In the subsequent summer, he competed for the Brewster Whitecaps in the Cape Cod Baseball League, posting a 4.38 ERA in 12.1 innings across seven appearances, with 10 hits allowed, four walks, and 16 strikeouts. Returning to Texas Tech in the fall, Girton’s season was curtailed by injury, limiting him to nine games and 17.2 innings pitched, resulting in a 4.08 ERA, 10 hits surrendered, seven walks, and 18 strikeouts.

Following his redshirt year in 2023 due to injury, Girton resumed play as a redshirt sophomore. Despite a promising start as both a starter and reliever, another injury shortened his season to 15 games, where he recorded a 5.82 ERA over 51.0 innings, allowing 52 hits, walking 31 batters, and striking out 36.

After not being selected in the 2023 MLB Draft, Girton entered the transfer portal and joined the University of Oklahoma for the 2024 season as a redshirt junior. He continued to pitch in both starting and relief roles, but struggled, posting a 7.32 ERA over 35.2 innings, conceding 44 hits, issuing 31 walks, and striking out 47 batters.
