Anyone who watched Netflix’s *Receiver* TV series saw a frustrated Davante Adams, frequently voicing his dissatisfaction with his situation. At times, it was due to a lack of targets, while at other times it was about poor ball placement that left him vulnerable to injury.
This season offers a new beginning for the Las Vegas Raiders with Antonio Pierce now taking over as head coach rather than serving on an interim basis. The team also features a new quarterback lineup, including Gardner Minshew III and Aidan O’Connell, giving Adams more opportunities to build chemistry with his passers.
However, the Raiders face a challenging division, having to compete against the reigning Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs twice a year. Without a proven quarterback, the Raiders are not expected to be strong playoff contenders.
Despite the possibilities, there are concerns about how much longer Adams will tolerate his situation in Las Vegas, especially since he hasn’t been to the playoffs since leaving Green Bay in 2021. This raises the possibility of a trade.
Currently, Davante Adams is not on the trading block. The Raiders want to assess what Coach Pierce can achieve with a full offseason and training camp. However, Adams’s status could change as the season unfolds. With the NFL trade deadline pushed to after Week 9 this year, the Raiders will have ample time to evaluate their team and competitive prospects.
If the Raiders are struggling by Week 9, a trade involving the 31-year-old receiver could become likely. According to Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated, a trade could be considered before the 2024 deadline if the team’s season is faltering.
Breer notes, “I don’t think a Davante Adams trade is imminent. The Raiders likely want to avoid signaling to Coach Pierce that this season is a write-off by trading Adams early. However, if the team is in a dire situation by the trade deadline, such as with a 1-6 record, trading Adams would be easier to justify than if they were 0-0. Additionally, considering Adams’s contract, which escalates to $36.25 million in 2025 and 2026, it’s unlikely he will stay with the team beyond this season.”
Should Adams become available, the New York Jets would likely show interest, and the former Green Bay Packers receiver might be open to reuniting with his old quarterback under the right conditions, which Aaron Rodgers would support.
