BREAKING: Mets brilliant star officially confirm move for top MLB team on a lucrative deal

The Mets released right-handed pitchers Adrian Houser and Ty Adcock this afternoon. Houser’s release was initially reported by Will Sammon of The Athletic on X, while Anthony DiComo of MLB.com shared the news about Adcock on Twitter.

Both pitchers had been designated for assignment by New York. Houser lost his roster spot last Friday, and the Mets held onto him in DFA limbo, hoping to find a trade partner before yesterday’s deadline. Since no trade materialized, they opted to release him instead. Houser, with over five years of service time, would have retained his full salary if he refused a Triple-A assignment, prompting the Mets to choose release.

Mets starter Adrian Houser has scoreless outing in win over Marlins

Houser joined the Mets in an offseason trade with Milwaukee, which also brought outfielder Tyrone Taylor to New York. While Taylor has performed reasonably well as a fourth outfielder, Houser struggled, posting nearly a run per inning in seven starts, leading to his removal from the rotation. However, he has shown better results in long relief, with a 3.28 ERA in 35 2/3 innings across 16 appearances. Despite low strikeout rates in both roles, Houser has managed a solid 53.2% ground-ball rate in relief.

This performance did not attract any trade interest from other teams. It’s unlikely that a team will claim Houser on waivers given the $1.63 million remaining on his $5 million-plus salary. Once he hits free agency, another team might sign him for a prorated portion of the $740,000 minimum salary. Houser is expected to receive minor league offers and might find an MLB team willing to use him in a relief role for the rest of the season, with another free agency opportunity in the offseason.

Mets decision to pull Adrian Houser after 67 pitches backfires

The Mets also designated Adcock for assignment yesterday to make room for Tyler Zuber. Adcock, claimed from the Tigers in May, had a rough stint with New York, allowing seven runs in 4 1/3 innings over three appearances.
