St. Louis City acquire German top defender in a stunning deal

St. Louis City SC has brought in German defender Jannes Horn on loan from 1. FC Nuremberg. The 27-year-old left back will remain with the MLS team until June 2025, with options to extend his stay through June 2026 and potentially until the end of 2026.

St. Louis sporting director Lutz Pfannenstiel commented on Horn’s versatility, highlighting his aggressive playing style and proficiency with the ball, which complements the team’s approach. Horn’s capability to also play as a center back adds valuable flexibility to the defense.

Horn will use an international roster slot acquired from the Philadelphia Union for $75,000 in general allocation money for 2025. With over 150 professional appearances in Germany across clubs like Nuremberg, VfL Wolfsburg, 1. FC Köln, Hannover 96, and VfL Bochum, Horn is expected to strengthen a St. Louis defense that has conceded the third-most goals (46) in the Western Conference this season.
