NY Yankees significant error that adds to their ongoing blunders

Even though the MLB trade deadline has passed, the season’s final stretch is now underway.

There are numerous thrilling races to watch as the end of the season approaches, which could decide which teams secure a playoff spot. In the latest episode of the Baseball Insiders podcast, FanSided’s MLB insider Robert Murray and co-host Adam Weinrib talked about teams that seem ready to make a strong push for the playoffs in the second half, along with other MLB rumors.

Yankees made a mistake passing on Jack Flaherty

Don’t look now, but the New York Yankees are on a roll. They’ve won their last three series and seven of their last ten games. As of Monday, they’re tied for first place in the AL East with the Baltimore Orioles.

The mood in the Bronx is upbeat, largely thanks to their trade deadline moves. Jazz Chisholm Jr. has made an immediate impact, hitting four home runs in his first three games with the team, and Mark Leiter Jr. has been solid out of the bullpen. However, as highlighted by Murray, there’s one major oversight.

While the Yankees had an active trade deadline, they missed an opportunity to strengthen their rotation, which has struggled recently. Marcus Stroman has been inconsistent, Nestor Cortes has had road issues, Carlos Rodon has been up and down, Luis Gil faces workload concerns, and Gerrit Cole hasn’t fully regained his form since returning from injury. This leaves a lot of uncertainty.

Although Flaherty’s injury is a concern, the Dodgers acquired him, and he responded with six scoreless innings against a strong Athletics lineup. The Yankees’ decision not to trade for him could impact their performance in the AL East and potentially in October.
