Dolphins wide receiver Tyreek Hill has faced multiple penalties and fines for repeatedly gesturing with two fingers in celebration after scoring touchdowns. Prior to the recent game against the Raiders, referee Bill Vinovich, as depicted in the first episode of this season’s Hard Knocks, had a pre-game conversation with Hill.
During their discussion, Vinovich initially reminded Hill to avoid illegal shift penalties and then specifically requested that he refrain from making a peace sign.
Vinovich conveyed his message to Hill, saying, “Have a great game today. Two things: Be sure you get set on your shifts, and no peace signs, please. I don’t want to have to make a decision.” Despite Hill’s playful protest that he was “spreading world peace,” Vinovich urged him, “Just don’t do anything after, man.”
In the end, Hill complied with the request and went on to have a successful game against the Raiders, catching 10 passes for 146 yards and scoring a touchdown, all without incurring any penalties.
