Sad News: Boston Red Sox Baseball Star Placed on Injured List Following Jarren Duran’s Suspension; Brayan Bello Reinstated

Jarren Duran, outfielder for the Boston Red Sox and Major League Baseball, has been suspended without pay by both the Red Sox and MLB. This action follows an incident in which Duran was overheard using a homophobic slur towards a fan during a 10-2 loss to the Houston Astros on Sunday.

During the game, a fan was heckling Duran while he was 0 for 2 with two strikeouts in the sixth inning, suggesting he needed a ‘tennis racket.’ Duran responded by turning towards the fan and telling him to ‘shut up,’ while also using a derogatory term.

The Red Sox themselves also issued a team statement, which reads: “We echo Jarren’s apology to our fans, especially to the LGBTQ community. We strive to be an organisation that welcomes all fans to Fenway Park, and we will continue to educate our employees, players, coaches and staff on the importance of inclusivity.”

The Red Sox have placed left-hander James Paxton on the 15-day injured list due to a strained right calf, following his limping off the field in the first inning of Sunday’s game against the Houston Astros.

Manager Alex Cora shared before Boston’s game against Texas that an MRI revealed the extent of Paxton’s injury. “He’s in pain. We’ll see what happens,” Cora said.

Paxton, 35, sustained the injury while covering first base on a grounder hit by Yordan Alvarez. He felt a sharp pain in his calf, went down on one knee, and struggled to put weight on his leg when he stood up. “I felt like I got kicked in the calf, and then I felt it again,” Paxton explained after the Astros’ 10-2 win. “It’s not good. I felt it pop.”

Along with placing Paxton on the injured list, the Red Sox made several roster moves. They reinstated Brayan Bello from the paternity list, recalled lefty Bailey Horn from Triple-A Worcester, and selected right-hander Chase Shugart and catcher/infielder Mickey Gasper from Worcester. Additionally, they sent pitchers Brennan Bernardino and Brad Keller to Worcester and designated Jamie Westbrook for assignment.
